SECA Board of Directors

The SECA Board of Directors is composed of residents of Shuswap Lake Estates who are voted to their positions by the SECA membership during an annual election. At their discretion, the elected Board of Directors may also appoint additional Directors at Large as required.  The following were elected at the latest Annual General Meeting held on May 26, 2011.

Bill Colley, President
Born and raised in New Westminster B.C.  Bill spent 40 years in the forest industry eventually owning two log scaling companies.  He has been president of Port Coquitlam minor hockey, a director at the Vancouver Golf Club, chairman of community schools Dist. 43, President of the New West Gyro Club 5 times and Dist. Gov. of Gyro.  Bill and Wendie, his wife of 47 years, moved to Blind Bay in 2005.

Steve Wills, Past President and Director
Steve grew up in Manitoba and joined the RCMP at age 19. He completed his entire 36 years of service within B.C., mostly in the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland. In addition to uniform and major crime assignments, he also served for five years in an elected position representing over 18,000 officers during annual pay negotiations with the Treasury Board Secretariat. Steve currently serves as the President of the Shuswap RCMP Vets Association. Steve and his wife Kathleen moved to Shuswap Lake Estates in 2007.......

Arnie Payment, Treasurer
Arnie worked for Rohm and Haas Canada Inc. for 37 years. Arnie retired in 2000 from his position as Canadian Purchasing Manager, a position he held for 25 years. Arnie was very active in public service. He was a councillor for four years and on the Board of Directors for recreation in The Province of Ontario. He was also quite active in sports, serving six years as President of the Ajax Minor Hockey Association. He also coached hockey, ringette and baseball for a number of years. Arnie and Eleanor, his wife of 48 years, moved to Shuswap Lake Estates in 2003.

Sharon Ballinger, Secretary

Sharon grew up in Manitoba.  She began her teaching career in Calgary but soon moved to BC.  Sharon was promoted through the ranks and became a high school principal.  A believer in giving back to the community, Sharon joined Rotary and contributed in several projects in Prince Rupert and Revelstoke.  Sharon remains active with golf and curling and believes that any community is only as good as the people who live and work within it.

Eric Butler, Director at Large

 Eric was born in Vancouver. He spent 27 years at the West Vancouver Fire Dept and was promoted to District Chief. He has volunteered a great deal and recently served 6 years as Director and Chair of the Fire Suppression Committee. Eric and his wife Jenni enjoy golf and curling, along with visits from 4 sons, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

John Miller, Director at Large

Born and raised in Courtenay, John moved to Vancouver to continue his education.  He spent 38 years working for Finning Tractor and Equipment starting in service and finishing in sales.  Upon retirement he formed a consulting service for mill yards.  John and Marsha have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.  They purchased property in 1991 and built their dream home in 2000 where they have resided ever since.

Paul Demenok, Editor , Director at Large
Paul has been instrumental in re-establishing our newsletter.

Paul spent 12 years in pharmaceutical sales and marketing and then joined an ad agency in that industry.  He started his own agency in 1986 and built it to be the largest such agency in Canada by 1995.  Paul and his wife Sue moved to Blind Bay in 2009 and enjoy boating, curling and golf.  He keeps thinking he'll break 90 one day.

Ed Fearns, Director at Large
Ed was born and raised in Manitoba, and began his working career with Chevron Standard Oil drilling oil wells, installing pipelines, and building gas plants. He moved from Calgary to Vancouver in 1970 with a consulting firm and was involved designing pulp and paper mills and building the Logan lake town site. In 1974 he ventured into utility contracting and became a partner in Progressive Contracting in 1980. In 2003 he and his wife retired to Shuswap Lake leaving their son to carry on the company. He is presently on the advisory board of the Okanagan College.

Dennis Miller, Director at Large
Dennis’s career was primarily in the field of information systems, business analysis and project management in the financial and oil and gas arenas. Over the years, he holidayed in the area and finally retired to Shuswap Lake Estates in 2000. Since then, he has been an active member of our community and has volunteered with the South Shuswap Communities Society, SECA, the Area C Parks Commission, and the Sorrento/Blind Bay Parks Commission. This is Dennis’s fifth term as Director of SECA. Contact Dennis to borrow the SECA community equipment available to community groups.

Ken Proctor, Director at large
Ken had a 35 year career in the federal government. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later in Transport Canada. He completed his career as the Flight Service Station Manager at the Lethbridge, Alberta airport. Ken moved to Shuswap Lake Estates in 1992. He has served with SECA, CSRD Advisory Planning Commission & Canada Day Committee. He has coordinated the local Safe Boating Courses, sponsored by SECA, for seven years. He is active with the United Church and the SLE Tennis Club.
